The Dining Room: One Project Leads to Another

One of the first rooms in our house that was as "done" as any room ever gets around here was the dining room~

One thing that really bothered me, though, was the dull black wall of my china hutch~

I thought it would look so much better with a mirrored backwall.  I remembered that Lowe's cut glass and mirror, so off to Lowe's we went.  This is what we came home with~

Unfortunately, the machine at Lowe's wasn't accurate.  We had to go back to have them re-cut the mirror.  This time their machine broke.  Womp.  Womp.

After calling around to a few glass companies, I decided to use Addison Glass & Mirror.  I gave them my precise measurements, and a week later my mirrors were cut perfectly.  Smile!

I used this Scotch Mounting double-sided tape to adhere the mirror to the back of the cabinet.  It only took tiny pieces in each corner~

And, then after a struggle with styling the cabinet, here is the finished product~

My dinner guests requested that I included their picture.  They tried so hard to get in all of my pictures~

Unfortunately, now I'm bored with my dining room.  It's far from perfect, and just not as inviting as I would like for it to be.  My dining set is one of the first "real" furniture purchases I made on my own back in 2006.  I've got too much invested in it to get rid of it, so I'm brainstorming options for adding a little more *something* to the room.  If you've got ideas, please share in the comments section!!

Happy weekend, y'all!

  1. So... I really like your dining room and your guests. :) I am wondering if maybe there is too much mirror? The mirror in the entry seems to be reflecting the (very Cool) mirror panels. Could you move the mirror panels to a different wall and add a large piece of art? I don't know what your taste in paintings is, but a modern piece with splashes of color along with grey, black and white would look really cool. Bryn posted some pretty pieces on her blog in the last week (I think). It already looks lovely, so don't stress too much.

  2. The addition of that mirror really transforms the piece! Great thought. Thanks for the tip on Lowes doing mirror cutting, etc. Sorry it didn't work out for you, but I might have to try it in the future sometime!

  4. Jenny, your dining room is beautiful and I love the new mirrors on the cabinet. I know how you feel about a room needing "something". We have a blue gray dining room as well, and I came home one day with all these beautiful black, white, and silver accents...and hated them as soon as I put them out. All were returned. I decided to add a bunch of tan accents with natural fibers and have recently started using some golds and yellows in there too. For me it really warmed up the space. I think your dining room is lovely the way it is, but just thought I'd share what I did to be happier with mine. Thanks so much for linking up to Roomspiration!

  5. I think your dining room is gorgeous; classic and warm. Your guests are quite cute too.
Whenever I want to spruce things up, I change the table centerpiece....or change my table runners. I have a large collection of runners and they make me smile. :) Maybe that will make you feel better??? If not, perhaps a bit of a paint change for the focal wall? But then again...I do love your paint choice too.
    Love your bog!!
