Master Bathroom-Before

Just to show you how far we've come, I want to share the before pictures of our master bathroom.  I took these shortly before we remodeled.  When we bought the house, the bathroom was painted a bright gold.  I just couldn't handle it, though.  So even though it didn't really match, I painted the bathroom Pashmina by Benjamin Moore to get us by until we made it to the remodel.

Master Bathroom Remodel

This post is really a long time coming.  When we bought our house four years ago, we knew then that we planned to remodel the master bathroom.  It wasn't our first priority, though, so after a few years and a lot of saving, we started down this road about a year ago.  I spent weekend after weekend browsing the showrooms at the local tile and stone distributor warehouses and countless hours staring a pictures online.  In late spring we started getting quotes from local contractors.  And, right on track with my third trimester of pregnancy, we moved upstairs to our guest room and the remodeling began.  Six weeks later, Texas Remodelers and Builders finished my dream bathroom.  And, I'm proud to share it with you now~

 

 

I know I've fallen off of the blogging wagon, but I promise to try to be back later this week to show you the before images and share the product list with you.

 

Fun and Funky Bedding

When I'm shopping online for bedding, I usually start with sources like Pottery Barn, West Elm and The Company Store.  I always forget to check out what Garnet Hill has to offer in their Bedding & Home Collection!  They have a great selection of sheets, quilts, comforters, towels and rugs.  They carry a great neutral line by Eileen Fisher and a fun, beachy line by Lilly Pulitzer.

Here are a few of my favorites that I found on their website recently.  I think this would all be great to add a fun punch of color to a space~

To Soak or Not to Soak...

To soak or not to soak, that is the question...

This is probably a bit of a random post.  While my soul is finally in full-on Christmas mode (I've been baking tonight), my decorating mind is starting to think beyond the Holiday 2011 season.  Our big project for 2012 is to update our master bathroom.  Our home was built in 1993 and it's all but written all over the master bath, which is complete with an ivory plastic jacuzzi tub (which doesn't even work) and shell shaped sinks. 

One of the big debates I have about the updates is what kind of tub I should use.  I love a modern soaking tub, but I still don't see many of them in new construction in Texas.  I'm scared a potential home buyer here would expect a built-in jacuzzi tub.  What do you think?

*And while I think this wood herringbone floor in the last picture is to die for (seriously),

as someone who has wood in the kitchen (which I think is gorgeous),

I would never put it in the bathroom. 

I've seen what just one glass of spilled water can do to it.

You'd be horrified the first time water got splashed on it.

Powder Room Updates

Way back in the spring, I showed you our downstairs powder room~

Then, I shared our mirror removal~

I've been hesitant to share the rest of the pictures, because we just haven't completely finished the room.  But, I thought it might be best to get your advice.  Here is where we are now~

We painted the bathroom Atmospheric by Behr, removed the old mirror and added this mirror from West Elm (because of our hand trowled walls, we had to stick with a 24" x 36" mirror), added a new rubbed oil bronze faucet found on Overstock.com, added a new towel holder and toilet paper holder from target, a new hand towel holder from Bed, Bath and Beyond, new cabinet hardware from Lowe's and a new toilet handle from Home Depot.   Eric installed everything for me, so we didn't have to spend any money aside from the new hardware. 

Because I was hosting a wedding shower at my house this summer and really wanted the bathroom finished, we bought a $29 bronze light fixture from Home Depot to make due.  We're still searching for something permanent.  The issue is that the light box is really close to the mirror, and I don't want the light hanging onto the mirror.

Form or Function?

Which would you rather have?  Function or form?

These bathroom vanities areundeniably beautiful, but where is her hair dryer?  And her eye cream?  And her contact solution?  I think I'll take my vanity with a little more function.  What would you choose for your bathroom?  Beautiful or useful?  Or preferably both?

Frameless Mirrors

If you live in a house that you didn't get to completely customize yourself, I'm willing to bet that you have a frameless mirror in at least one of your bathrooms.  We have them in all of ours.  They're definitely a point of debate.  My husband hates them.  While I think ours are ugly, it is nice to have a large mirror for hair and make-up purposes.  As I scrolled through pictures looking for something worth your time today, I noticed something in a picture...it is possible to have a perfectly lovely frameless mirror.  Check out what I found.  It looks like sconces over the mirror might be the key to pulling it off, but these homes certainly make it work~
